Over the years, we have cultivated a vibrant research community through <strong>poster sessions<\/strong> and, more recently, <strong>short papers<\/strong>. This year, we are taking a bold step forward\u2014expanding our research track to include <strong>full-length, indexed papers<\/strong>, ensuring that high-quality African AI research receives the global visibility and academic recognition it deserves.<\/p>\n<p>In previous years, submitting a paper required prior acceptance as an <strong>Indaba attendee<\/strong>. However, for <strong>DLI 2025<\/strong>, the research track is now one of the pathways to attending the Indaba. This means that <strong>anyone can submit a paper<\/strong>, regardless of their application or&nbsp; acceptance status for the main event. That said, <strong>only one author per accepted paper<\/strong> will receive an <strong>attendance pass (at no cost)<\/strong> to the Indaba, and priority will be given to<strong> African researchers<\/strong> or those <strong>based in Africa.&nbsp; <\/strong>All accepted papers will be required to present a poster, however, selected papers will also have oral presentations.<\/p>\n<p>We invite researchers to submit their most <strong>substantial, original, and impactful work<\/strong> in <strong>Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and AI<\/strong>, particularly those that address <strong>Africa\u2019s unique challenges and opportunities<\/strong>. Accepted papers will be presented at the <strong>Research in Africa Showcase<\/strong>, providing a platform for engagement with leading AI scholars, industry experts, and policymakers.<\/p>\n<p>All submissions must be done through <a href=\"https:\/\/openreview.net\/group?id=DeepLearningIndaba.com\/2025\/Conference&amp;referrer=%5BHomepage%5D(%2F)#tab-your-consoles\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">OpenReview<\/a>.  Apply before <strong>May 20, 2025<\/strong>, at <strong>11:59 PM AoE<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Submission Topics<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>For DLI 2025, we focus on advancing AI research and applications that address Africa\u2019s unique challenges and opportunities. AI has the potential to drive innovation, foster economic growth, and create sustainable solutions across various sectors, including healthcare, education, agriculture, and finance. We encourage submissions that explore both fundamental AI research and impactful real-world applications that contribute to Africa\u2019s technological progress.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We invite submissions on <strong>all aspects of artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and deep learning<\/strong>. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Machine Learning &amp; Deep Learning<\/strong> \u2013 Algorithm development, optimization, and novel architectures.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Natural Language Processing (NLP)<\/strong> \u2013 Language models, multilingual NLP, and advancements in low-resource languages.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Computer Vision<\/strong> \u2013 Image and video analysis, medical imaging, remote sensing, and generative models.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Reinforcement Learning &amp; Multi-Agent Systems<\/strong> \u2013 Decision-making, planning, and autonomous systems.<\/li>\n<li><strong>AI for Social Good<\/strong> \u2013 AI Applications in <strong>healthcare, finance, education, agriculture, and sustainability<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Privacy-preserving and Trustworthy AI<\/strong> \u2013 Secure model training \/ inference; fairness, transparency \/explainable AI (xAI), novel attacks and defenses.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We welcome both <strong>theoretical and applied research<\/strong>, and while addressing African challenges is encouraged, it is <strong>not a requirement<\/strong> for submission.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Submission Guidelines and Instructions<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>All submissions must adhere to the following guidelines:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Eligibility<\/strong>: At least <strong>one author<\/strong> must be an <strong>African researcher or a researcher based in Africa.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Length<\/strong>: Papers must be a maximum of <strong>8 pages<\/strong>, excluding references. Accepted papers will be granted <strong>2 additional pages<\/strong> (up to 10 pages) to address reviewer feedback.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Formatting<\/strong>: Papers must follow the <strong>Proceedings of Machine Learning Research (PMLR) style templates<\/strong> available <a href=\"https:\/\/ctan.org\/tex-archive\/macros\/latex\/contrib\/jmlr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Submission Platform<\/strong>: All papers must be submitted via <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/openreview.net\/group?id=DeepLearningIndaba.com\/2025\/Conference&amp;referrer=%5BHomepage%5D(%2F)#tab-your-consoles\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">OpenReview<\/a><\/strong>. Submissions by email or other mechanisms will not be accepted. Authors without an OpenReview account should register early, as account approval may take up to <strong>two weeks<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Review Process<\/strong>: Submissions will undergo a <strong>double-blind peer review<\/strong>, and authors must anonymize their manuscripts accordingly.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Originality<\/strong>: Papers must present <strong>original, unpublished work<\/strong> that has not been accepted or under review at another venue.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ethics and Limitations<\/strong>: Authors should discuss <strong>ethical considerations<\/strong> and <strong>limitations<\/strong> where applicable.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Language<\/strong>: All submissions must be in <strong>English<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Format<\/strong>: Papers must be submitted in <strong>PDF format<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Important Dates<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Authors should take note of the following key deadlines:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Paper Submission Deadline<\/strong>: <strong>May 20, 2025<\/strong>, at <strong>11:59 PM AoE<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Notification of Acceptance\/Rejection<\/strong>: <strong>June 20, 2025<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Camera-Ready Submission Deadline<\/strong>: <strong>August 1, 2025<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Conference Dates<\/strong>: <strong>Between August 17-22, 2025<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Registration Details<\/strong>: For accepted papers, one author of the paper will be invited to attend the Indaba with no registration fees. Accommodation in a shared dorm is available upon request, but unfortunately the Indaba will not be able to sponsor travel to Kigali<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All deadlines are <strong>strictly enforced<\/strong>, and <strong>no extensions<\/strong> will be granted. Authors are strongly encouraged to <strong>submit early <\/strong>to avoid last-minute issues with the submission system.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Pre-Submission Mentorship Programme<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>To support authors in preparing high-quality submissions, Deep Learning Indaba offers a <strong>pre-submission mentorship programme<\/strong> to improve the robustness of experiment design, as well as the quality of writing and presentation.
