Strengthening Africa's ML Community
A Deep Learning IndabaX is a locally-organised Indaba that helps spread knowledge and builds capacity in machine learning and artificial intelligence in individual countries across Africa.
The IndabaX programme started in 2018 as an experiment in strengthening our machine learning community beyond the annual Deep Learning Indaba, to allow more people to contribute to the conversation on artificial intelligence and machine learning. We join hands across our beautiful continent. The initiative continues in 2026, and it is YOUR initiative!

IndabaX Program Evolution
Since its inception in 2018, the IndabaX initiative has significantly expanded its reach and impact across Africa. Starting with 13 events, it has grown to support over 47 countries, fostering a vibrant community of machine learning enthusiasts.
2018
The Beginning
The IndabaX program was launched, supporting 13 local events across Africa, aiming to strengthen the machine learning community.
2019
Rapid Expansion
With events in 27 countries, the program saw a substantial increase in participation, reaching thousands of attendees.
2021
Resilience and Innovation
Despite the global pandemic, IndabaX adapted with hybrid and online events in 23 countries, showcasing innovative solutions.
2023
Record Participation
Supporting 36 countries, the program continued to grow, setting the stage for even greater expansion in the coming years.
