Rayid Ghani is a Distinguished Career Professor of Machine Learning and Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon University, where he develops and applies AI, machine learning, and data science to address some of society’s most pressing challenges. His work spans public health, criminal justice reform, education, unemployment, and human services, bridging the gap between cutting-edge AI research and real-world policy solutions. Rayid collaborates with governments, nonprofits, and organizations to create systems that help solve social problems, shape AI governance policies, and advance research on human-AI interaction, as well as bias and fairness in machine learning, to promote equity, fairness, and transparency. He is also the founder and director of the Data Science for Social Good Fellowship. Before joining Carnegie Mellon, Rayid was the Founding Director of the Center for Data Science & Public Policy and a faculty member in Computer Science and Public Policy at the University of Chicago. He also played a key role in political campaigns, serving as Chief Scientist for the Obama 2012 Election Campaign.
