We are really excited to announce this year’s edition of the Ideathon. The Ideathon is an experiment of the Indaba which started in 2022 and is aimed at building connections and collaborations across the continent. As part of the competition, the candidates are encouraged to propose either research- or application-based projects.
We welcome proposals from all attendees, independent of their background and expertise. The only requirements will be:
- At least one member of the team is based in Africa
- The project includes a machine learning component
The timeline:
In summary, the Indaba week will be used to facilitate the development of your teams and ideas. Once the Indaba is over, you will have the opportunity to develop your idea and prepare a pitch for the judges to review. Mentorship opportunities will be available during and after the Indaba.
Before the Indaba:
- Register your interest
- Use the Indaba’s community channels to look for others interested in collaborating on your research idea or application proposal, or look to collaborate on someone else’s idea
At the Indaba:
- You will have the chance to hear from previous winners
- Networking sessions to facilitate meeting other interested participants
- Mentorship to help refine and grow your ideas
- Submit your application
After the Indaba:
- Each applicant team will have the chance to apply for a presentation feedback session before the final judging session through the Deep Learning Indaba Mentorship Programme
- The applicants will submit a video to be judged 4 weeks after the Indaba.
- There will be a live session after the judges have had a chance to review the pitches. Winners will be announced at this stage as well. This will take place about 6 weeks after the Indaba
